-Read O'Brien through pg. 124. Be prepared to discuss.

-Blog about an experience you had over break. Ground the experience in place.

-Jake H., Connor, and Mel be prepared to present your songs.

-Rhetorical Analysis Due

-Read Dan O'Brien Buffalo for the Broken Heart (1-20)

3/11:
-Read Berry poem (AE pg. 505). Write a brief personal response (either blog or journal).
-Bring rough draft of Rhetorical Analysis for peer response.

3/4:

-Read Steingraber (AE 929). Choose a rhetorical strategy and blog (or journal) about the reading accordingly. Be prepared to present in class.

3/1:

-Analyze Muir readings in terms of assigned rhetorical strategy. Answer at least one question under the heading (see worksheet) in-depth. Have at least one example, and be prepared to present at the beginning of class.

-Read Carson (American Earth pg. 366)

2/25:

-Visual Analysis Due: Final draft, reer responses, rough draft

-Read John Muir (AE 85-89 and 98-104). Blog or journal: Who is his audience? What is his purpose? How does he employ ethos, pathos, and logos?

2/23:

-Read Roosevelt (AE 132) and Abbey (AE 413).

-Blog about each using "Reading Like a Writer." Also, answer the questions, Who is his audience? What is his purpose?

- Remember you should be working on your photo-a-day project.

2/18:

-Read Momaday (American Earth pg. 570)

-Chris, Ben, Daniel, and James, be prepared to present songs.

-Bring a rough draft of visual analysis paper for peer response.

1/26:

-Journals Collected

- Read first half of Blood Dazzler by Patricia Smith (through "Don't Drink the Water")

-Read "Place" by W.S. Merwin (American Earth pg.716)

-Read "The Summer Day" by Mary Oliver (American Earth pg. 737)

-Choose one question from "Reading Like a Writer" handout and, using one you haven't used yet, journal about one of the writings.

1/28:

-Read second half of Blood Dazzler.

-Write a 250-word blog on a poem of your choice from Blood Dazzler, using a "Reading Like a Writer" question you haven't used yet. This should be at least two substantial paragraphs.

-Write an imitation of a passage from Smith's book: a poem based on your own experience within environment/place.
